Ken Jones (activist)

Ken Jones is an American activist.[1][2] From New Jersey,[3] he served in the Navy in Vietnam, until he was reassigned from there to San Francisco, to lead a military desegregation program.[1][4] He also worked against AIDS, worked to make the gay rights movement more diverse, and organized services for homeless young people.[4]

He is openly gay, and was the first African-American chair of the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade and Celebration Committee.[1][5] He is portrayed by Jonathan Majors and Michael K. Williams in the 2017 miniseries When We Rise, about LGBT rights.[6][7]
