Keijo!!!!!!!! (Japanese: 競女!!!!!!!!, lit. "Competitive Girl"), also known as Hip Whip Girl, is a Japanese sports manga series written and illustrated by Daichi Sorayomi. It has been serialized in Shogakukan's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Sunday since July 2013 to April 2017 and has been collected in eighteen tankōbon volumes. An anime television series adaptation produced by Xebec ran from October 6 to December 22, 2016.

The series centers around the fictional women-only sport of keijo, where players stand on floating platforms and aim to incapacitate or push their opponent into the water, using only their breasts and buttocks. The story follows Nozomi Kaminashi, a gymnast who trains at a keijo school, hoping to become the richest player in Japan.

Premise

The series is set in an alternate reality where a new, women-only, gambling sport known as "keijo", quickly becomes a fad in Japan since its introduction in the dawn of the 21st century. Keijo matches are held atop floating platforms, referred to as a "Land", in large water-filled stadiums where swimsuit-clad players fight to incapacitate their opponents or push them out to the water, but they can only hit each other using their breasts or buttocks.

Nozomi Kaminashi is a gifted gymnast who decides to give up her dream of competing in the Olympics and become a keijo player instead, aiming for the high earnings offered there, in order to get herself and her younger siblings out of poverty. As she enters the world of Keijo, Nozomi soon makes new friends and rivals, while learning that the way to fame and fortune in this new, uncommon sport will have more challenges than she ever imagined.

Characters

Other media and appearances

In addition to the manga, the anime television series of the same name aired on October 6, 2016,[3] and the video game Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 has a crossover promotion with Keijo!!!!!!!!, with in-game swimsuits based on the manga.[8]

The anime is produced by Xebec and directed by Hideya Takahashi, with Takao Kato handling series composition, Keiya Nakano designing the characters and Hayato Matsuo composing the music.[9] The opening theme (from episodes 1 to 11), "Dream X Scramble!", was performed by Airi, while the ending theme, "Fantas/Hip Girlfriends!", was performed by Lynn, M.A.O, Kaede Hondo, and Saori Ōnishi.[10] The series will be released across six Blu-ray and DVD home video release volumes totaling 12 episodes,[11] and each volume will include an original video animation.[12] The anime is streamed by Crunchyroll[13] and Funimation, the latter of which streams an English dub.[14]

October 6, 2016
Nozomi partakes in try-outs at a keijo school alongside her friend Miyata and the rest of the new students. She stays in the game until only she and Hanabi are left: the two fight on equal footing, but Hanabi eventually knocks Nozomi into the water. Nozomi and Miyata pass the try-outs, and move into their dormitory room at the start of the term where they met their roommates, Non and Kazane.
2 "The Hip Toss Brings Us Together!!!!"
"Danketsu no Hippu Tosu!!!!" (団結のヒップトス!!!!)
October 13, 2016
The students are doing keijo exercises, one of which involves passing a beach ball around in a group, using only one's buttocks. Nozomi's team initially struggles, but Kazane is able to accurately guide them to where the ball will land by reading the wind currents, and they eventually win. Later, Nozomi's team is placed in a practice match with Nagisa, one of the keijo teachers.
3 "Vacuum Butt Cannon!!!!"
"Shinkū Rekketsu!!!!" (真空烈尻(しんくうれっけつ)!!!!)
October 20, 2016
The students are told what fighting style suits them – infighter, outfighter or counter – and do exercises. Nagisa tells Nozomi to not use the "vacuum butt cannon" move she used during the practice match: while effective, it could damage her spine. Nozomi insists, so Nagisa has her train in a special swimsuit that restricts her movements. Sayaka trains to match Rin's high-speed movements, and faces her in a keijo match during the class-change race, where students get the chance to advance to the elite class.
4 "The Battle for the Fastest Butt!!!!"
"Saisoku Kettei-sen!!!!" (最速尻定戦(さいそくけつていせん)!!!!)
October 27, 2016
While Sayaka is able to match Rin's speed, Rin's endurance is higher due to her larger lung capacity; Sayaka still manages to win by giving herself a wedgie, allowing for greater hip mobility and dramatically increased speed. Non wins her match by deflecting her opponent's attack, but Kazane loses hers when her opponent, Mio, hypnotizes her by swinging her breasts like a pendulum.
5 "Full-Auto Cerberus!!!!"
"Jidō geigeki (furuōto) keruberosu!!!!" (自動迎撃(フルオート)ケルベロス!!!!)
November 3, 2016
Nozomi faces Kotone in the class-change race, who dodges all attacks while having her back turned, and chases Nozomi using Cerberus, a move where a ghostly image of a dog is manifested from her buttocks. The two collide, and Nozomi wins, as the running around had charged her vacuum butt cannon move. Nozomi and her roommates all advance to the elite class; Kazane, despite losing, had performed well and cornered Mio, which was why Mio used hypnosis, a move she was banned from using.
6 "Alluring Kyoto Trip!!!!"
"Miwaku no Kyōto gasshuku!!!!" (魅惑の京都合宿!!!!)
November 10, 2016
The elite class goes on a field trip to Kyoto, where they are divided into groups based on their fighting styles, and train with professional keijo players.
7 "Where the Turnips Lead!!!!"
"Kabu no michibiku saki!!!!" (カブの導く先!!!!)
November 17, 2016
Nozomi has become less agile due to building muscle from her vacuum butt cannon move, so she is given special training where a rope is tied around her waist and the stem of a turnip, and she needs to pull it up by moving her buttocks and hips quickly, without breaking off the stem. The class also does an exercise where they walk upstream in a river with their hands behind their heads, while using their breasts to knock floating debris out of their way.

"Haran hisshi no tōzai-sen!!!!" (波乱必至の東西戦!!!!)

While her group seemingly struggles against the east, they use a number of set ups and tricks to get Aoba one-on-one. Aoba seems to struggle, but eventually reveal her power, that she can copy the signature moves of any girl's butt she touches, including Butt Gatling and Meteor Hip. The girls colide, and though it is close, the west loses the match thanks to the east's using Left Perky Piper, moving her away from the water.
11 "The Castle of the Final Match!!!?"
"Kessen no shiro!!!!" (決戦の城!!!!)
December 15, 2016
Nozomi and her group go into the final match which determines the winner, held atop a feudal era castle that sinks every time a player is eliminated. The girls graduate, and head on to their month long introduction to being professional keijo players.

Reception

In November 2016, Crunchyroll revealed their most viewed anime shows of the season in the United States per state; the Keijo!!!!!!!! anime was the most popular in nine states, with only Yuri on Ice and Drifters being most viewed in more states.[16] In 2017, fans in Portugal were in the planning stages for a defictionalized Keijo sport league. The rules of the defictionalized version were modified and protective gear for the breasts, rear, and thighs were added to make the sport "safer and more realistic". A proof of concept video showed a match in action and the league planned to scout for interested parties and venues for play.[17][18]
