Bangalore Cantonment - Guwahati Superfast Express, also known as Kaziranga Express is a tri-weekly super fast express train run by the Northeast Frontier Railway zone of the Indian Railways between Guwahati, Assam and Bangalore, Karnataka.
History
It is named after the world-famous Kaziranga National Park in Assam. Train numbered as 12509/12510, covers entire distance of 2,991 km (1,859 mi) in about 54 hours.
Route
It runs through states of Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka & covers important stations like New Bongaigaon, New Jalpaiguri, New Cooch Behar, Malda Town, Howrah, Kharagpur, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam, Vijaywada, Chennai, Bangalore.
Coach composition
The train runs with a massive load of 24 coaches with the count of ac coach being 9 (1A,2A,3A). It is one of those few trains amongst non rajdhani/ac express, with a high no of AC coaches. The train consists of both AC and Non AC accommodation. The total coach count for this train is 23. Sometimes one or two high capacity parcel vans are attached to it. Usually departs from platform 7 at Guwahati and platform 2 at Bangalore Cantonment railway station.
Locomotives
The train is hauled by a number of locomotives which are as follows:
- Guwahati-Howrah: Twin WDM-3A of Howrah Diesel Loco Shed;
- Howrah-Vishakhapatnam: WAP-4 from either Howrah Electric Loco Shed or Santragachi Electric Loco Shed.
- Vishakhapatnam-Chennai Central: WAM-4 from Vijaywada/Arrakonam or WAP-4 from Erode/Arrakonam/Royapuram Electric Loco Shed.
- Chennai Central-Bangalore: WAP-4 from Erode/Royapuram/Arrakonam Electric Loco Shed.
The information is the same for the return journey as well.
Reversals
This train reverses once at Howrah Junction, then at Visakhapatnam Junction and finally at Chennai Central.
