Karnaphuli Tunnel (Bengali: কর্ণফুলী সুড়ঙ্গ)[1] is a proposed underwater river tunnel in the port city of Chittagong, Bangladesh to be constructed under the Karnaphuli river. The tunnel length is 3.4 kilometres (2.1 mi) and width 10 metres (33 ft). The tunnel is expected to be completed in 2020. The tunnel will be first of its kind in Bangladesh and is expected to improve the Dhaka -Chittagong -Cox's Bazar highway network.[2][3][4] A Chinese company was selected to construct it. Chinese President Xi Jinping is set visit to the construction site of the Karnaphuli Tunnel.[5] [6]
