Karbala Olympic Stadium is a sports stadium in Karbala, Southern Iraq.
Overview
Its construction was started in January 2013 and was opened on 12 May 2016. The stadium is being funded by the government of Iraq with a budget spending of $100 million, contributed to contain a capacity of 30,000 people, and other sports related facilities.[3]
The contract of this project was given to Abdullah Al-Jaburi, a major Iraqi construction contractor.
Opening
The stadium was opened on 12 May 2016. The opening game was between Karbalaa FC and the 2007 Asian Cup winners Iraq national football team. The game ended in 0-0 and it was visited by more than the capacity actually holds.
