2015 was a busy year for Kang as he appeared in four films; musical film C'est si bon,[8] period film Empire of Lust,[9][10] coming-of-age film Twenty[11][12] and black and white biographical period film Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet, where he played the titular role of poet Yun Dong-ju.[13]

In 2016, Kang starred in romantic comedy film Like for Likes, playing young songwriter who suffers a hearing disability.[14][15] The same year, he co-starred in the historical drama Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, playing the role of 8th Prince Wang Wook.[16]

Kang has also confirmed his casting in mystery thriller Recall the Night in which he plays the role of the younger brother for Kim Mu-yeol's character.[20]
