Kalyani N is an Indian film actress who has appeared in supporting roles in Tamil and Telugu films. She made her debut in Kollywood a small role in Settai, later following it up with a contemporary mother's role in Pisaasu.

Career

Kalyani began her acting career as a Tamil theatre actress in Mumbai.[1][2] After a few advertisement assignments, she made her transition to films. Her debut role on the big screen was a cameo in the Tamil movie Settai (which was a remake of Delhi Belly). She went on to perform the role of Imran Khan's sister-in-law in Dharma Productions' Gori Tere Pyaar Mein.[3]

However, what gave a boost to her career was her performance as Nassar's daughter Meenakshi in the 2014 release Saivam,[4][5] which won her a lot of acclaim. Her role in the film Pisaasu, where she was seen playing the role of the mother of the protagonist, was highly appreciated.[6][7] In 2015, she played Sathyaraj's wife in Oru Naal Iravil - Tamil remake of the Malayalam sleeper hit Shutter - directed by editor Anthony.

Her first release of 2016 was Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam written by Selvaraghavan and directed by his wife Gitanjali, in which she played a cancer patient. She made her Telugu debut in the Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer Dictator which released on Sankaranti day. Later that year, she played a doctor in the Vijay starrer Theri. She played Keerthy Suresh's mother in the movie Remo starring Sivakarthikeyan.

In 2017, two of her films released on the same date, March 3rd - Arun Vijay starrer Kuttram 23 and Mupparimanam starring Shanthanu Bhagyaraj. She played a role with negative shades for the first time in Kuttram 23 for which she was lauded.[8] Her next release of 2017 is Victor Jayaraj's directorial debut Vinodhan.
