Haji Kaka Muhammad Umar Sahib (Urdu: كاكا محمد عمر, Tamil: காகா முகமத் உமர்; 1864–1927) is the founder of JAMIA Darussalam University[1] and Oomerabad. He bought 200 acres of land from the British after the rule of Nawab Anwaruddin khan and gifted it to the people. The land today is Oomerabad. Umar was a skins and hides merchant[1] a partner of N.M.A Cerim Omer & Company.

History

Kaka Umar was born to Kaka Bahauddin in 1864 at Batrapalli. He contributed to the growth of Roshan N.M.A Cerim Omer & Company and managed 27 tanneries and 64 branches. He also controlled a number of raw skin centres in India and the Far East with sales office in Japan.

Believing in promoting education, he established a number of educational institutes throughout his life, such as JAMIA Darussalam University. This Islamic university was founded on 7 December 1924 at Oomerabad, a newly founded village named after him. Kaka Umar was the founding Vice President of southern India skin and hide merchants association.
