KUNC is an NPR affiliated public radio station for Colorado that reaches a massive audience along the state's Front Range, mountain corridor and Eastern Plains. The station, known for its compelling features journalism (including national Edward R. Murrow awards), serves Denver, Aurora, Brighton, Boulder, Golden, Fort Collins, Greeley, Castle Rock, Breckenridge, Vail and many other communities. The station's newsroom pursues news from an unbiased perspective and aspires to journalism's highest standards. Over the decades, the station has won numerous awards, including some of the industry's highest, including national Edward R. Murrow awards for investigations.

The station, headquartered in Northern Colorado, began operations January 6, 1967, in Greeley at the University of Northern Colorado as KCBL. It became KUNC in the 1970s. It's primary signal is 91.5 FM, but it has a number of other stations and translators (a full list of radio frequencies is below). You can stream NPR in Colorado at www.kunc.org for free.

During the Fall of 2000, UNC put the station up for sale in an effort to save money. Colorado Public Radio in Denver agreed to purchase the station; it had been looking to expand to Northern Colorado for some time. However, an upwelling of support from the local Northern Colorado community as well as a concerted effort by staff at the station, targeted at "keeping community radio local," led to a fundraising effort which produced a counter-offer from KUNC, which became an independent entity. Since then, the station's news operations have grown significantly.

On July 24, 2007, KUNC began transmitting from Buckhorn Mountain, northwest of Fort Collins.

On Feb. 29, 2016, KUNC became a 24/7 news operation, providing a full slate of NPR, BBC World Service and other programming for Colorado. Shows as of 2017 include "The Moth," "This American Life," "Latino USA," "1A," "Reveal," "Fresh Air," "Marketplace" and other shows.

The station is listener supported, owned and operated by Community Radio for Northern Colorado, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. KUNC, 91.5 FM, is licensed to Greeley, Colorado, United States.
