KIPH (88.3 FM) is an American non-commercial educational radio station licensed to serve the community of Hāna, Hawaii. The station, established in April 2011, is owned and operated by Hawaii Public Radio, Inc.
Programming
KIPH broadcasts a classical music format to the eastern portion of Maui.[2] KIPH and KIPM operate as simulcasts of sister station KIPO as part of the Hawaii Public Radio station group.[2]
History
In October 2007, Hawaii Public Radio applied to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for a construction permit for a new broadcast radio station. The FCC granted this permit on April 11, 2008, with a scheduled expiration date of April 11, 2011.[3] The new station was assigned call sign "KHPH" on October 23, 2009.[1] While construction continued, the permit holder had the FCC change the call sign to "KIPH" on January 12, 2011.[1] After construction and testing were completed in early April 2011, the station was granted its broadcast license on April 22, 2011.[4]
On February 14, 2017 KIPH switched from HPR's news, talk and jazz service to HPR's classical music service, as a part of Hawaii Public Radio's realignment of its program services.[5]
