H. M. Jyothi
Hiriyur Manjunath Jyothi (born 1 July 1983) is an Indian sprinter who competes in the 100 metre, 200 metre, and 4×100 metre relay categories. She is the former national champion and is currently ranked third place in India with personal best timings of 11.46 and 23.42 seconds in 100 and 200 metres, respectively. A Canara Bank employee, Jyothi is married to the former Indian sprinter and Asian Championship medalist Srinivas.[1]

Early life
Hiriyur Manjunath Jyothi was born to father Manjunath and mother Thipamma in Hiriyur, Chitradurga, Karnataka, on 1 July 1983. She is the third of four siblings.
Career highlights
- At the beginning of her career, she won gold in the 400 metre relay at the Asian Athletics Championships held at South Korea in 2004.
- She won bronze in the 100 metre relay at the Asian Athletic Championship in China, which became India's first sprint medal in nine years.
- Jyothi, anchor leg runner at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, earned a bronze medal in the 100-metre relay, missing silver by one-tenth of a second.
- Jyothi was part of a national squad comprising Merlin Joseph, Srabani Nanda, and Dutee Chand, who broke the national record at the IAAF World Challenge at Beijing in May 2016.[2]
- The same squad went on to break their own national record in the following month with the timing 43.42 (a record that still stands) at Almaty, Kazakhstan. Missing out the Rio Olympics Qualification by milliseconds.[3]
- She won the Best Athlete Award at the 2016 Open nationals on winning gold in 100 metre, 200 metre and 100 metre relays.
- She has won various medals at the national and international levels.
- Jyothi received a sporting award called the Ekalavya Award from her state government. She has also received the Rajyothsava award and the Karnataka Olympics Association Award.
Family and breakthrough
Jyothi is married to former international sprinter Srinivas, who is also her present coach. In 2011, she withdrew from professional competition and gave birth to a baby girl. Jyothi gave a comeback at the 2014 Senior Interstate Meet. She then went on to participate at the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, losing out medals by finishing 5th place in both events. In 2016, she achieved her personal best timings in all her events at the Federation cup, held at Delhi.
