Juankoski (Swedish: Strömsdal) is a former town and municipality of Finland.

It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the Northern Savonia region. The town has a population of 4,804 (31 March 2016)[2] and covers an area of 465.27 square kilometres (179.64 sq mi) of which 120.98 km2 (46.71 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 10.32 inhabitants per square kilometre (26.7/sq mi). Juankoski formally became a town in 1998.

Neighbouring municipalities of Juankoski were Juuka, Kaavi, Tuusniemi, Kuopio, Nilsiä and Rautavaara.

The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

In March 2014, the Juankoski city council decided that town was going to merge with Kuopio in the beginning of 2017.[6]

History

Museum Masuuni Brunou focuses on the area's iron and cardboard industry, as well as local history.
