Juanita Bynum (born January 16, 1959) is an American Pentecostal televangelist, author, actress and gospel singer.
Early life
Juanita Bynum is an American Televangelist, Platinum Gospel Recording Artist, New York Times Best Selling Author, Television and Radio Personality, Actress, and Empowerment Coach. She is the CEO of Juanita Bynum Enterprises, a multi-faceted lifestyle and empowerment product company based in New York.
Personal life
Bynum is one of five children from the marriage of Elder Thomas Bynum Sr. and Katherine Bynum. She was born and raised in Chicago and received many starring roles in school productions such as, My Fair Lady. As a member of the High School National Who’s Who program, Bynum attended Saints Academy High School of the Church of God in Christ in Lexington, MS. She fellowshipped at St. Luke Church of God in Christ
After Bynum graduated from high school, she started preaching in nearby churches and at revivals. Gaining some recognition at this point, she began a series of what she calls "Lessons in Submission".[1]
In 1996 Bishop T.D. Jakes invited Bynum to attend one of his singles' conferences, where she rose from attendee to speaker in two years. In 1997, she released "No More Sheets," a video and audiotape series about her changed lifestyle. In July 1999, Bynum re-preached "No More Sheets" at Jakes' 52,000 attendee Woman, Thou Art Loosed! Conference in Atlanta. She began appearing regularly on the Trinity Broadcasting Network. The conference was viewed in many parts of the world
In 2000, Bynum taught a class on the subjects of character, submission and time management at New Greater Bethel Ministries in Jamaica, New York, attended by a class of approximately 70 women. While teaching, her Women's Weapons of Power Conference was organized. The Weapons of Power conference was held annually through 2006. Bynum was married from 2002 – 2008 which ended after her husband plead guilty to aggravated assault charges.
Career
Through the 1990s, Dr. Juanita Bynum was speaking at many major conferences throughout the United States. After mounting the platform of Bishop Jakes Singles Conference to minister “No More Sheets”, Bynum quickly became a worldwide voice in ministry. Speaking regularly at conferences with 20,000-30,000 attendees, her ministry grew to music, literary works, television and radio. The annual Women, Weapons of Power and Women on the Front Line Conferences drew up to 48,000 women annually. In 2004, Dr. Bynum held a large Christian event in Nairobi, Kenya drawing over 750,000 to Uhuru Park for the National Conference.
In 2006, Bynum held the Threshing Floor Conference with over 68,000 registrants at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Bynum was also a regular host for Trinity Broadcasting Network Live Program “Praise The Lord” receiving 10 of 12 Highest Rated Shows within a 12-month period. She also had daily programs on The Word Network, Daystar Network and other Christian Affiliates.
Dr. Bynum expanded her ministry to other facets as well. Writing over 12 books, she became a New York Times Best Seller and wrote many books for all ages including Matters of the Heart, Threshing Floor, Spiritual Inheritance, A Heart for Jesus Children’s Book, The Juanita Bynum Topical Bible and others. As a singer, she has produced nine musical projects and is an RIAA Certified Platinum Selling Gospel Recording Artist. She has graced the covers of Charisma Magazine, Essence Magazine, Upscale Magazine, Spirit Led Women Magazine and others. Bynum has also acted in movies and television shows such as Mama, I Want to Sing” opposite Lynn Whitfield and Ciara, ABC Family Lincoln Heights and Divorce Court with Judge Toler
