Joxantonio Ormazabal Berasategi, also known as José Antonio Ormazabal Berasategi or Joxan (21 July 1948 Cegama - 2 May 2010 Cegama), was a Spanish writer. He worked in the field of children's literature in the Basque language as a writer, translator and literary editor.

Life

At the age of 12, he entered the seminary of Saturrarán, and later in San Sebastián. At 17-18 years old, he left the seminary and began a teaching career. When he was 23 years old, he entered as a teacher in the ikastola Salbatore Mitxelena de Zarauz. In that ikastola, he worked with Anjel Lertxundi, Mariasun Landa, and Juan Martin Elexpuru, among others, in the elaboration of the Saioka method. To respond to the needs of the students, he began to write his first stories. [1] He later worked as a teacher at the Alkartasuna High School in Beasain.

At the beginning of the decade of the 80, he began to work in Elkar publishing house , assuming the responsibility of the area of children and youth literature, where he would continue until 2009, when he retired, at 60 years. He also wrote numerous stories and poems and was also a translator and an adapter.[2] According to Xabier Mendiguren Elizegi, he is one of the mainstays of the Basque children's literature. [3] He died in a mountainous area of Cegama on 2 May 2010. [4]
