Josh Warrington (born 14 November 1990) is a British professional boxer from Leeds, England.[1] He is the current WBC International champion, having held the title from April 2015 to present.[2] He has previously held the European, British, and Commonwealth and English featherweight titles.[3][4][5][6]

Warrington is currently ranked as the eighth best featherweight in the world by BoxRec as of May 2017.[7]

Professional career

2016

Leaving Matchroom and joining Frank Warren

On 2 December Matchroom Boxing announced that Warrington's promotional contract with them had expired. Warrington's promoter and Matchroom managing director Eddie Hearn said in a statement "we did not share the same plans as his team and decided not to make any further offers."[8]

After much speculation, Warrington officially signed for rival British promoter Frank Warren in a "long-term promotional deal" later in December.[9] Warren has said he is confident of delivering a first world title shot for Warrington and delivering a number of shows in Leeds in 2017.[10][11]

2017

13 May fight

On 23 January Warren announced that Warrington would be making his return to the ring on Saturday 13 May at the First Direct Arena in Leeds. It was initially announced that Warrington would fight WBO Inter-Continental champion Marco McCullough. However, it has since been announced that Warrington would not fight McCullough and that the announcement had been an error. On 3 February Warren revealed that they had made an offer for Warrington to fight former IBF super-bantamweight world champion Kiko Martinez.

Team

Warrington is trained by his father Sean O'Hagan.

He is managed by Steve Wood, from VIP Boxing, who also manage WBO lightweight world champion Terry Flanagan.

Personal life

Warrington's profession is as a dental technician. He is an avid supporter of local teams Leeds United [12] and Leeds Rhinos.
