Josh Devine (born Joshua John Devine; 9 July 1991)[1] is an English drummer, singer, and songwriter. He is known for being the live drummer of One Direction. He released his debut EP, Through The Fire, as a solo artist in August 2015 alongside Ollie Green.[2]
Personal life
Devine grew up in Bournemouth, England, but later moved to The Midlands during secondary school.[3] Devine's father was in an '80s rock band growing up, which inspired his musical interests at a young age.[4] Devine began experimenting with drumming at the age of three years, and later got gifted his first drum set from his parents on his fourth birthday.[5]He did work experience for a friend when he was 14 in a drum shop called 9drum, based in Leicester.
Career
Music
In 2011, Devine found out about the audition opportunity for One Direction through a friend of his on Facebook.[6] He was selected on the very first audition, and has since performed with them on every show.
Devine began to pursue a solo career in March 2015, when he first released a cover of "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars alongside Lia Marie Johnson, Jamieboy, and Josh Golden.[7] He later went on to collaborate with singer & songwriter Ollie Green to create the Through The Fire EP in August 2015.[8] In an interview with MTV in October 2015, Devine hinted at working on a full-length album.[9]
On 1 January 2017 Josh announced the beginning of his new band Evaride. Members include Hayden Maringer, Sean Michael Murray and Josh. They have announced the release of their debut music during the month of March.
The band are rumoured to be heading out on tour in 2017 and releasing music. Josh will still continue to tour with One Direction, which Niall Horan confirmed.
