Brittain played four seasons (2006-2010) of major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) where he scored 80 goals and 72 assists for 152 points while registering 370 penalty minutes in 258 games played.[3] On May 6, 2010, the Anaheim Ducks signed Brittain to a three-year entry-level contract.[4]

Between the 2010-11 and 2012-13 seasons, Brittain would split time between the ECHL, in which he played for the Elmira Jackals and Fort Wayne Komets, and the American Hockey League, in which he played for the Syracuse Crunch and Norfolk Admirals.[1][5]

On August 7, 2013, Brittain signed a one-year AHL contract as a free agent with the Hershey Bears.[5] Brittain would split the 2013-14 season between the Bears and the Reading Royals.[3]

On September 18, 2014, Brittain signed a contract with the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL.[3] On November 19, 2014, Brittain was traded to the Missouri Mavericks of the ECHL in exchange for future considerations.[6]

On March 11, 2015, the Mavericks traded Brittain to the Ontario Reign of the ECHL in exchange for Defenseman Chris Owens and future considerations.[7] On August 3, 2015, Brittain joined the Indy Fuel as a free agent on a one-year contract.[8] In an injury hit 2015–16 season, Brittain compiled 7 points in 24 games. He was loaned to the AHL, featuring in 5 games for 1 assist with affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs.

As a free agent, Brittain opted to continue in the ECHL, signing a one-year deal with the Norfolk Admirals on September 1, 2016.[9] In the 2016–17 season, Brittain registered just 3 goals in 28 games before he was traded to the Allen Americans on January 6, 2017.[10]

After concluding the 2016–17 season with a second round exit to the Colorado Eagles, Brittain left the Americans and signed his first contract abroad. He agreed to a two-year contract with Slovakian club, HC ’05 Banská Bystrica on May 18, 2017.[11]
