Joseph Santoliquito
Joseph Santoliquito is an award-winning sports writer based in the Philadelphia area.
He has written feature stories for SI.com, ESPN.com, NFL.com, MLB.com, The Philadelphia Inquirer and also The Philadelphia Daily News. He previously worked as managing editor for Ring Magazine.[1] In 2006, he was nominated for an Emmy Award for a special project piece for ESPN.com called "Love at First Beep." He is most noted for his award-winning story on high school wrestler A.J. Detwiler in February 2006 on ESPN.com. He received national acclaim for his poignant, in-depth piece on Olympic gold medalist boxer David Reid, which appeared in May 2012 on Deadspin.com. In 2014, he was elected President of the Boxing Writers Association of America and took over the post 1 January 2015.[2] In February 2015, his story on the website PhillyVoice.com on the smear campaign aimed at the Neumann-Goretti girls' basketball program, ranked No. 1 in the country, received national attention.[3] On October 18, 2015, his story for PhillyVoice.com on the speech impediment Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles overcame, garnered local and national applause.[4] On November 18, 2015, he wrote a story on the battle Showtime announcer Mauro Ranallo wages against bipolar disorder for Sherdog.com.[5] He received national praise throughout the combat sports world in telling Philadelphia 76ers PR president/former UFC PR chief Dave Sholler's inspirational story for PhillyVoice.com on November 10, 2016.[6] [7] He is the recipient of 27 BWAA writing awards (1 first, 6 seconds, 8 thirds and 12 honorabe mentions).
He is a graduate of Temple University, where he was an academic All-America athlete.[8]
Santoliquito currently writes a popular sports blog in the Philadelphia area for CBSPhilly.com.
