José Carlos de Almeida, best known as Zé Carlos (born in Presidente Bernardes, São Paulo State, 14 November 1968) is a Brazilian former association footballer who played as a defender.
He started his career in 1990, and played for São José, Nacional, São Caetano, Portuguesa, União São João, São Paulo, Juventude, Matonense, Ponte Preta, Grêmio and Joinville.
He last played for Portuguesa in 2005 until May.
Zé Carlos played only once for the Brazilian national team. He managed to get selected for the Brazilian squad for the 1998 FIFA World Cup due to injuries to other players. He did not play until the semifinal match, where he was selected to start against the Netherlands. He did not play in the final defeat to hosts France and was never called up again, so his appearance in the 1998 World Cup semifinals ended up being his first and only international cap.
