Johnny Mack Morrow

Johnny Mack Morrow (born November 25, 1942) is an American Democratic politician. Since 1990, he has been a member of the Alabama House of Representatives for the 18th district. He resides in Red Bay, Alabama.

Johnny Morrow received his BS in Economics in 1965 from Mississippi State University and his MBA from Samford University in 1970. He spent most of his career in Education: He taught Business and Economics for 28 years at Alabama’s first public Jr. College in Phil Campbell, Northwest Alabama State, which was founded in 1963. Johnny was present when then-governor George Wallace opened the entire system. The governor’s goal was to allow farmers living in Franklin, Winston, Marion Counties to send their kids to college and only have to sell a hog to pay for it. Johnny was elected to Legislature n 1990 and has served there since. In his legislative and Projects/Committee Service, he chaired the House Tourism Committee. Still involved, Rep. Morrow paid his own way to Japan, meeting Caroline Kennedy (ambassador), and is still active with a project that will allow Japanese tourists to fly into HSV and see many of our points of interest, then head to the Shoals area to take in points of interest there as well. Work on this project continues with Madison County and Shoals Tourism boards. A lifelong Democrat, Johnny’s attitudes formed around education early in life. He grew up listening to US Congressman Carl Elliott speak with his father in their driveway. Elliot was the first winner of the JFK Profiles in Courage Award. Elliott wanted every child to have the opportunity to further his education beyond high school, and established the National Defense Student Loan Program. He is also the author of the book “The Cost of Courage.” Johnny and his wife Martha, a practicing optometrist (first woman awarded Optometrist of the South Award) at Cypress Cove Farm in Franklin, AL (21 acres of reclaimed wetlands that have attracted waterfowl and listed as site 51 on the Alabama Bird Trail), where he maintains several miles of trails. Always environmentally active, he is happy spending his working on and sharing the property. Johnny is a lifelong member of the NRA yet he’s not afraid anyone is coming after his guns. Has spent his life working for education: education for all. ^[1][2]
