John Stile
John Stile (fl. 1511) was English ambassador to Spain c.1511, during the reign of Ferdinand of Aragon as king of Spain, and the early reign of Ferdinand's son-in-law, Henry VIII of England. Henry was then married to his first wife, Katherine of Aragon.[1]
Stile went to Spain in 1505, on a diplomatic mission for Henry VII. He was ordered to stay there, making a permanent position; this was the first England resident diplomatic posting, rather than a transient mission, at a secular (i.e. non-papal) court.[2]
