John Bennett (author)

John Bennett (May 14, 1865 – December 28, 1956) wrote and illustrated children's books. He was born in Chillicothe, Ohio. He wrote The Pigtail of Ah Lee Ben Loo with Seventeen other Laughable Tales and 200 Comical Silhouettes, which was one runner-up for the Newbery Medal in 1929.^[1]

John Bennett's Master Skylark was one of the most successful children's stories ever published. With Hervey Allen and DuBose Heyward, he founded the Poetry Society of South Carolina.The Doctor to the Dead is based on a collection of grotesque folk-tales.
