João Teves is a town in the central part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. It is situated 19 km northwest of the capital Praia and is connected with the road connecting Praia and Assomada (EN1-ST01). It is the seat of São Lourenço dos Órgãos municipality and its parish and also has its own church. In the east is another road connecting with Achada Fazenda and Pedra Badejo, the EN1-ST03, not called Caminho de Ribeira Seca as it runs within.

Ribeira Seca, the island's second longest stream flows through town, some 3 km east downstream is Cape Verde's first dam, the Barragem de Poilão which was first built in 2006.

Minibus services (yasi or hilux) are offered in João Teves and connects with the city of Praia, its rate is 150 escudos per ride, it also connects with Assomada and Tarrafal. In 2015 a project called EcobusCV started running a fleet of dual fuel waste vegetable oil / diesel modified Toyota HiACE minibuses using a scheduled service model between Praia and Assomada. Buses depart every 30 minutes, from designated bus stops in Praia, at Igreja Nova Apostólica in Fazenda, and the city, in front of the court house, one stop in town are included which started in around late 2015.

Sports

It has the municipality's only football (soccer) club GDR São Lourenço based in the municipal seat. It also has its own sports arena used for basketball, volleyball and futsal.
