Jessica E. Lessin is a journalist and founder and editor-in-chief of the technology website The Information.[1][2] Before starting The Information in December 2013,[3] Lessin spent 8 years at The Wall Street Journal covering the technology and media industries.[4][5]
Personal life
Lessin was born Jessica Elizabeth Vascellaro. Her father, Jerome Vascallero,[6] is the COO of private equity firm TPG Capital and is a trustee at Brown University.[7]
She graduated from Harvard College in 2005, Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in history. While at Harvard, she wrote for The Harvard Crimson[8] and served as an executive editor.[9]
She married Samuel Lessin in 2012,[10] and her first child, Lion, was born in early 2017.
She currently lives in San Francisco.
Career
At the Wall Street Journal, she wrote more than a thousand articles and news stories while covering Apple,[11] Google,[12] Yahoo, Facebook, Twitter and other global technology and telecom companies. She was part of the team that was a 2012 Pulitzer Finalist for a series on digital privacy.[13] The team won a public service award from the Society of Professional Journalists for that same series. Jessica has appeared on CNBC, NPR, CNN and PBS's "The Charlie Rose Show" and is a regular speaker at international conferences.[14][15] Lessin was listed in 2014 as an Influential Woman in Technology by Business Insider.[16]
Relationship with Mark Zuckerberg
Lessin's husband Sam is a close friend of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, from the time they spent together as students at Harvard University.[17] Sam Lessin was brought into Facebook when his company Drop.io was acquired in 2010.[18] Sam Lessin left Facebook on August 29, 2014.[19]
