Jerudong International School (Abbrev: JIS) is a co-educational, boarding and day school in Brunei, and one of the few international schools in the country. Jerudong International School offers UK education from nursery to sixth form, culminating in the A Level examination. The school is affiliated to several British school organisations such as the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference (HMC), the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA) and the Boarding Schools' Association (BSA). Jerudong International School first opened its doors for primary education in January 1997 and subsequently for secondary in October in the same year.[1]
Location
Jerudong International School is housed in a dedicated campus located in Kampong Tungku, a designated village on the outskirt of Bandar Seri Begawan. It is also close to Universiti Brunei Darussalam and the headquarters of DST, a telecommunications service provider.
Education
Jerudong International School provides comprehensive education from nursery to sixth form which follows British National Curriculum. The school's education is divided into four main academic years, namely Early Years, Junior Years, Middle Years, and Upper Years. Early Years and Junior Years make up the Junior School whereas Middle Years and Upper Years constitute the Senior School.[2][3][4]
Junior School
The Early Years of the Junior School consist of Nursery, Kindergarten and Reception and it is based on the UK Early Years Foundation Programme.[5] Junior Years comprise of Years 1 to 6. The Junior School is usually attended by pupils from age two in Nursery to age eleven in Year 6.
Senior School
The Senior School consists of Middle Years (Years 7 to 9) and Upper Years (Years 10 to 13).[3] There are two major examinations and they are sat in the Upper Years. Firstly, students sit for GCSE Examination at the end of Year 11.[3] Alternatively, students may also opt for IGCSE instead — it is an international version of GCSE offered by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) for students outside of the UK.[3] At the end of Year 13, students sit for A Level Examination.[6] Since 2011, International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is also offered in lieu of the A Levels.[6][7] Attainment of either qualification allows students to proceed to the university level.

Under the Order, it is compulsory for parents in which at least one of them is Bruneian citizen to ensure their children who are Muslim, born after 1 January 2006 and reside in the country to attend primary religious school.[8] At the end of Ugama years, students sit for Sijil Sekolah-Sekolah Rendah Ugama (SSSRU, literal translation: Religious Primary Schools Certificate).[9] Generally students may have completed the Ugama school by Year 8; a few may finish at the later years because they may have resided outside of the country in the early years.[9]
