Jeremiah 16 is the sixteenth chapter of the Book of Jeremiah in the Hebrew Bible or the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. This book contains the prophecies spoken by the prophet Jeremiah, and is a part of the Books of the Prophets.[1][2]

Verse 2
- “You shall not take a wife, nor shall you have sons or daughters in this place.”[3]
- Celibacy was not normal, as large families were indicative of blessings, but Jeremiah is appointed to a life with God as "his sole comfort and support."[4] Jeremiah's lifestyle serves as a "symbolic enactment of God's word" (Hosea 1:2-9; Isaiah 8:3-4).[5]
