Jeffrey Jackiel Rothschild is an American billionaire entrepreneur, business executive and philanthropist. A patent-holder, he is the co-founder of several companies. He is a founding engineer and large shareholder of Facebook.
Early life
Jeffrey Rothschild was born around 1955. He is not a member of the Rothschild family.[2] He graduated from the Vanderbilt University College of Arts and Science in Nashville, Tennessee in 1977.[3][4] He received a master's degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Engineering in 1979.[3]
Career
Rothschild worked as an engineer at Honeywell and Intel, and then for a consulting firm that worked on projects such as Locus Computing Corporation.[5] Rothschild co-founded Veritas Software in 1988.[2] He co-founded Mpath Interactive in 1995, which became a public company in 1999.[2]
Rothschild is listed as co-inventor on several MPath patents.[6][7] In 1999 he became an advisor and venture partner at the venture capital firm Accel Partners.[5]
In 2003, Rothschild co-founded Mendocino Software, with fellow former-Veritas executives Peter Levine and Steve Colman.[8][9] Mendocino shut down quietly by March 2008.[10][11]
Rothschild started working for Facebook in 2005.[2] He was the oldest person working for Facebook at the time.[2] He became Facebook's vice president of infrastructure software.[2] In 2012, he owned 18 million Facebook shares.[2]
Philanthropy
Rothschild serves on the board of trust of his alma mater, Vanderbilt University.[12] In December 2016, he donated $20 million to the university.[13][14]
Personal life
Rothschild married Texas and Arizona Attorney Michelle Scopellite in 1982 and they divorced in 1984. Rothschild has a wife, Marieke, who grew up in The Netherlands,[13] and three children.[1] He resides in Palo Alto, California.[12] He was worth an estimated US$1.67 billion in 2015.[1]
