Jeff Chan was born in Concord, California on November 23, 1970.[1] He is an Asian American tenor saxophonist and composer who is currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. Chan is inspired by the work of African American musicians. Chan is a participant in the Asian-American Creative Music Movement.[2] His Big Fun Philharmonic is a large ensemble based on the idea of giving musicians freedom to express themselves.[3]
Style
Chan states his influences include Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Ornette Coleman. He bases his music on avant-garde Chicago jazz music which is a large influence of the Asian-American Creative Music Movement.[4]
