Jason Goldman,[1] professionally known as Spicy G, is an American born music producer, songwriter, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, and educator. He co-produced Michael Buble’s platinum selling 2016 album “Nobody But Me[2] and co-wrote the lead single “Nobody But Me”.

Early life

Goldman grew up in Norwalk CT and took up the saxophone at age 11 after being inspired by his father, who was an R&B saxophonist in his youth. Goldman attended the Berklee College of Music majoring in jazz composition and film scoring. in 1998, Goldman moved to Los Angeles and, shortly after, was selected by jazz legends Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter to be a member of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz.[3] He toured the world performing with legendary jazz icons, including Herbie Hancock, Terence Blanchard, Christian McBride, Clark Terry, Jimmy Heath, Roy Haynes, Kenny Baron, Wayne Shorter, to name a few.

Upon completion of the Monk Institute and his masters in music at USC in 2002, Goldman began teaching at the University of Southern California[4] (USC) as an adjunct professor as well as becoming the Director of Jazz at the LA County High School for the Arts (LACHSA).

Career

In 2003, Goldman was selected by legendary record producer David Foster to be the featured saxophonist in Michael Bublé’s first touring band. While on Bublé’s first global tour, Goldman began penning new original arrangements for the 8-piece band including his takes on “Mack the Knife” featured on Bublé’s “Come Fly With Me[5]” DVD (2004) and Charlie Chaplin’s “Smile” featured on the CD/DVD combo “Caught in the Act[6]” (2005).

In 2005 Goldman made the difficult decision to leave the band to pursue a family and his teaching career. Before leaving the band, Goldman was asked by Foster to arrange “Let It Snow” for Bublé’s Radio City Music Hall debut. Goldman’s arrangement of “Let It Snow” was released on the platinum selling album “Let It Snow” (EP) in 2007, and has become one of Bublé’s most popular Christmas arrangements.

Goldman recently coproduced Michael Bublé's 2016 album "Nobody But Me", which debuted on Billboard top 200 at #2.[7] Goldman also arranged and orchestrated all of the big band songs on the album including: I Wanna Be Around, My Kind of Girl, and My Baby Just Cares for Me. He also wrote two originals on the album, Take You Away and the lead single Nobody But Me.

On September 2016, Goldman signed a music publishing deal with Reservoir Publishing.[8]

Teaching

Goldman is an Assistant Professor of Practice at the University of Southern California where he has been a faculty member since 2002. He is also the Artistic Director of the Nonprofit Young Musicians Project[9] which he founded in 2009.

Young Musicians Project (YMP)

In 2009, motivated by the collapse of the economy and the drastic cuts to arts education, Goldman started a charitable nonprofit organization called the Young Musicians Project. YMP provides inner-city schools and after school programs free in-school and web clinics on various topics in the music industry.

Published Works

In 2012 Goldman was recruited by publishing company Radnofsky/Couper to write a jazz improvisation book. “The Goldman Method”,[10] which is a systematic approach to jazz improvisation. It has received excellent reviews and is used in many high schools and colleges around the country.
