Jasmine Directory is a human-edited web directory providing websites categorized topically and regionally.[1][2][3][4] The directory offers a range of thirteen topic-based categories and one region-based category with hand-picked and reviewed users' suggested resources.[5]
Jasmine Directory's editors manually add resources to the index[1][6] (90% of the listings in Jasmine Directory were added manually, according to co-founder Robert Gomboș);[7] site owners can also suggest their websites for review by paying a fee, however, inclusion is not guaranteed if the suggested resources don't comply with the editorial guidelines.[2][8]
History
Launched in 2009[9][7] at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics by Pécsi András and Robert Gomboș[10][11][12], the project was developed using a core code created by TOLRA Micro Systems, Ltd.[13]
Currently, Jasmine Directory is headquartered in Valley Cottage, NY.[14][15]
Structure
The directory is organized by topic and region into 14 categories. Each main category has several subcategories. These categories include but are not limited to recreation and sports, regional, home and garden, business and finance, and computers and technology. Each category and subcategory is described and contains a relevant image. [2][5][16]. A blog where users can read industry specific articles is also featured. In order to suggest a resource for inclusion, users have to select the most appropriate category that best describes their business or resource.[12][9]
Reception
In 2013 and 2014, Jasmine Directory was rated and awarded eight times by Ken Anderson – former DMOZ meta editor[17] and owner and operator of the Magic City Morning Star[18] – in his "Top Ten Web Directories", where each directory is reviewed quarterly.[19] He rated Jasmine Directory in five key areas: aesthetics (8/10), size (9/20), intuitiveness (19/20), quality (22/25), and usefulness (22/25).[19]
Ann Smarty, search marketer and columnist at Entrepreneur – mentioned Jasmine Directory as providing a "valuable user experience".[20] Dave Davies, columnist at Search Engine Land (Danny Sullivan) and Beanstalk Internet Marketing Inc. included Jasmine Directory in 2013 in his hand-picked list of web directories.[21]
Moz had assigned Jasmine Directory a Domain Authority of 60/100, the Page Authority of its index page 67/100, MozRank of 6.81, and a MozTrust of 6.64.[19] Its Majestic Trust Flow is 59, and the Citation Flow is 49.[19] Its Alexa Traffic Rank is 21,057.[22]

The Jasmine web directory is focused mostly on businesses and local listings. The directory is not as big as some of the others on this list, but the result is that it features a highly selected list of websites, making it quite a very useful resource. A regional section is highlighted as well.

[...] Glad you asked (kfander is too ;-) ). He is really known as Ken Anderson, and he has been editing since early 1998. [...] Ken has had significant impact within the fora and is a well respected member of the editing community. That, coupled with excellent editing skills and a logical mind earned him Editall/CatMV in May 1999 and Meta in August 1999.
