James Joseph Pallotta (born March 13, 1958) is a billionaire American businessman and entrepreneur.[3] In 2009, he founded Raptor Group, a private investment company.[4] Prior to forming Raptor, Pallotta served as Vice Chairman at Tudor Investment Corporation. Additionally, Pallotta is co-owner and the chairman of the Italian football club A.S. Roma; co-owner and executive board member of the National Basketball Association's Boston Celtics,[5] and Co-owner of eSports franchise Fnatic.

Early life

Pallotta was born in 1958 in Boston to Angela Maria Di Giacomo from Canosa, Apulia and her husband James Pallotta from Calabria. Along with sisters Carla and Christine Pallotta, he was raised in Boston’s Italian North End Neighborhood. His sisters own and operate NEBO Cucina & Enoteca in Boston’s Financial District.[6] Jim Pallotta received his B.A. at University of Massachusetts – Amherst and received his M.B.A. at Northeastern University.

Raptor Group

Pallotta founded Raptor Group, a private investment company with offices in Boston, MA; New York, NY; Miami, FL; London, England; and Abu Dhabi, UAE. Raptor focuses on various industries including, but not limited to: Sports, Consumer, Technology, Media, Entertainment, and Financial Services.

A.S. Roma

Pallotta, along with three other American investors (Thomas R. DiBenedetto, Michael Ruane and Richard D'Amore) acquired Seria A football club A.S. Roma in 2011.[7]

On August 27, 2012 Pallotta became the chairman of club, succeeding Thomas R. DiBenedetto, and becoming the 23rd in the club's history.[8]

Tudor Investment Corporation

Prior to Raptor Group Pallotta served as a Vice Chairman and Partner at Tudor Investment Corporation.

Initiatives

In addition to various other boards and charitable organizations, Pallotta is involved with initiatives in both the digital currency and Artificial Intelligence space. Pallotta contributed to MIT’s Bitcoin Developer Fund which is a part of its Digital Currency Initiative (DCI), as well as the recently created Ethics and Governance of Artificial Intelligence Fund.[9] Other notable contributors to the Ethics and Governance of Artificial Intelligence Fund include LinkedIn Founder Reid Hoffman and Ebay founder Pierre Omidyar.[10]
