Jacob Bachmeier (born January 29, 1998) is a Democratic member of the Montana House of Representatives who became the youngest state legislator in the United States in 2016 when he was 18 years old.
Biography
Bachmeier was born in 1998 to Randy and Christine Bachmeier in Havre, Montana. He has five siblings.[1] He graduated from Havre High School and currently attends Montana State University–Northern.[2]
Bachmeier announced his run for the House in November 2015, when he was a senior in high school.[3][4] He turned 18 in January 2016, making him eligible for election, and picked fellow student Daniel Almas as his campaign manager.[5]
Bachmeier was elected with 53% of the vote, defeating incumbent Republican Stephanie Hess and becoming the youngest state legislator in the United States.[5] He also serves as Chair of the Hill County Democratic Central Committee.[6]
Personal life
Bachmeier resides in Havre. He is a Christian.[7] Bachmeier's great-grandfather, Charles Manuel, also served in the Legislature.[5]
