Jackson W. Crawford (born August 28, 1985) is an American scholar and poet who specializes in Old Norse[1]. As of August 2017, he teaches at University of Colorado, Boulder (previously at University of California, Berkeley and University of California, Los Angeles)[2]. He was a language consultant on the film Frozen.

He received B.A. in Classics and Classical Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics from Texas Tech University; an M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Georgia; and a Ph.D. in Scandinavian Studies from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

He wrote and edited the quarterly publication, interpretive displays, and social media content for the Riverton Museum in Riverton, Wyoming, however left in the summer of 2015.


Early Life

Born in Houston, Texas, however moved to the mountains around Blackhawk and Central City, Colorado around 1995. He has a brother, Travis Crawford (born July 6, 1992), who is in college, works as a part-time Tour Guide at the Grand Canyon, and is a Photographer.

Published works

Dr. Crawford has published several books, including The Poetic Edda: Stories of the Norse Gods and Heroes, intended for the use of undergraduate students and general readers, published in 2015 by Hackett Publishing Company. This was followed in 2017 by The Saga of the Volsungs: With the Saga of Ragnar Lothbrok, also published by Hackett Publishing Company.[2] He has also published creative writing in both English and Norwegian.
