Jabłonkowanie

Jabłonkowanie is a regional phonological feature of Polish language. It consists in the merger of the following series of postalveolar (sz, cz, ż, dż) and palatal ( ś, ć, ź, dź) consonants into a phonetically intermediate series (ʃʲ tʃʲ ʒʲ dʒʲ), written as ( śz, ćz, źż, dźż) respectively.[1]

It is named after the Jabłonkow subdialect of Polish (which in its turn is maned after the Czech town of Jablunkov). It occurs in a number of other Polish subdialects. [1]

The feature is in part the result of the process of dispalatalization (decreasing of the number of palatalized consonants) similar to features of "mazurzenie" and "kaszubienie" in other Gorals subdialects.[2]
