James Harold Brown (born January 5, 1967) is a former professional American football player who played in the National Football League)(NFL) as a cornerback for 12 seasons for the Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, and Detroit Lions. Brown is the only son of a Washington, D.C., police officer.[1]
Early years
Brown attended DeMatha Catholic High School. Brown attended University of Maryland, College Park and played defensive back. He was coached by Bobby Ross and Joe Krivak.[2] Brown played in the 1985 Cherry Bowl. Brown was part of the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1985.[3]
Professional career
Miami Dolphins
J.B. was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the 12th round (315th overall) of the 1989 NFL Draft. Brown's first year contract was about $65,000 in 1989. J.B. was coached by Don Shula and played for Miami for eight years. Shula felt compelled to cut three other cornerbacks—rookie David Holmes, his fourth-round pick, and veterans Don McNeal and Bobby Watkins[4] J.B played in the 1992 AFC Championship and Miami lost to the Buffalo Bills. 1994, J.B. started all 16 games and had 71 tackles and three interceptions.[5] Brown was the starter for many years in Miami, but lost his job in 1996 to Calvin Jackson and to open up the salary cap.[6]
Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers picked up J.B. and played one season. Coached by Bill Cowher with a 11-5-0, finished 1st in AFC Central Division.[7] The Steelers traded Brown August 28, 1998 to the Arizona Cardinals.[8]
Arizona Cardinals
J. B. played one year for the Cardinals coached by Vince Tobin finishing 2nd in NFC East Division[9] Arizona Cardinals' cornerback J.B. Brown brioke up a pass to Washington Redskins' wide receiver Albert Connell during the first half of their NFL game at Sun Devil Stadium, November in Tempe, Arizona.[10] The Cardinals won NFC Wild Card (Cowboys) 20-7 despite being called the greatest fluke teams of all time, who went 9-7 despite getting outscored by their opponents 378-325[11][12]
Detroit Lions
J.B. signed with the Detroit Lions July 19, 1999 when Bobby Ross was the Head coach and the following year Gary Moeller and finished his football playing career with the Detroit Lions with a total of 30 tackles in 16 games.

Brown is the Director of Sports Performance and Training for Grassroots Football League[14]
2013 the National Football League started The Legends Community. J.B.is the Northeast Coordinator Legend Ambassador to lead the outreach.[15]
Personal life
Brown married Renee and they have four children.[16]
