2016 Mississippi House of Representatives Legislative Session
Hughes served on Judiciary A; Judiciary En Banc; Medicaid; Accountability, Efficiency & Transparency; and Constitution committees. [8] The House introduced 1,789 bills, and 376 became law.[9] Major issues of the session included proposals to allow religious objections to gay marriage, major cuts the state budget, changes to the model for financing education, concealed carry of guns statewide without permits, and the arming of parishioners in churches[10]. Hughes voted against all of these measures. Hughes supported the maintenance of state roads and bridges, and a modest campaign finance and ethics reform measure, which were both unsuccessful.
