J.M. Stuart Station is a 2,318 MW coal-fired generating facility located east of Aberdeen, Ohio in Adams County, Ohio. The power plant has four units. The plant was built by Dayton Power & Light (DP&L) and became fully operational in 1974.[1] On January 10, 2017, an explosion occurred at one of the coal-fired units inside the plant injuring six people. The plant had to be temporarily shut down while DP&L investigated and assessed the explosion.[2] The plant began a restart the following month.[3] DP&L announced plans in January 2017 to close J.M. Stuart Station in an agreement with the Sierra Club and several unnamed parties. The closure is planned for mid-2018.[4]
