Jürgen Kantner

Jürgen Gustav Kantner (died 27 February 2017) was a German sailor who was beheaded by Abu Sayyaf in the Philippines.

Previously in 2008, he and his wife Sabine Merz were held in Somalia by Al-Shabaab for 52 days before their captors freed them. On November 5th, 2016, they were again kidnapped, this time from his yacht somewhere off the coast of the Philippines. During the incident his wife was shot by the gunmen when she tried to fight back. Later he would be taken to the jungles of southern Sulu province, where the Abu Sayyaf is based.

Finally on 27 February 2017, he was beheaded after a ransom deadline of 30 million pesos ($600,000) was not met.
