Career
Aishwarya's father Rajesh was an actor who had appeared in 50 films in Telugu. Her grandfather Amarnath too acted in lead roles, while her aunt Srilakshmi, is a Telugu comedy actor with over 500 films to her credit.[2]
She studied at Ethiraj College for Women and graduated with a B.Com degree.[3] She started to learn dance since she needed to choreograph a stage show for a student cultural fest and later entered the reality show Maanada Mayilada on Kalaignar TV. She won the show's third season and got offered roles in films thereafter.[2]
Aishwarya made her debut in the 2010 film Neethana Avan, playing one of the lead roles,[4][5] which was followed by minor roles in S. A. Chandrasekhar's Sattapadi Kutram and Vilayada Vaa.[6] She appeared in the 2012 cult film, Attakathi, portraying the character of Amudha.[2] She also acted in the films Aachariyangal and Puthagam, in which she was paired opposite Sanjay Bharathi.[7]
In 2014, she was seen alongside Vijay Sethupathi in two films, Rummy, and Pannaiyarum Padminiyum, released within two weeks. While the first film was a village drama set in the 1980s, the latter was based on a short film of the same name, and revolved around an old man and his vintage car Premier Padmini.[8][9] Critics praised her performances, especially in Rummy.[10][11] Hindustan Times wrote that she was "extremely promising"[12] while film critic Baradwaj Rangan noted that she was "expressive", calling her "a tonic for nerves frayed by the alabaster automatons we usually get as heroines".[13][14] Later that year, she appeared in a song sequence in R. Parthiepan's Kathai Thiraikathai Vasanam Iyakkam and as the female lead in Thirudan Police.[15]
Aishwarya's first release in 2015 was Kaaka Muttai. Her portrayal of a slum dweller and mother of two children was lauded by critics. Baradwaj Rangan wrote, "it features stunning performances from everyone...especially Aishwarya Rajesh, who plays the kids' mother with a world-weariness that belies her years".[16] Other reviewers stated that she was "excellent",[17] played her role "with extraordinary ease" [18] and that she "leaves you awe-struck".[19][20] That year, she also made her the stage debut, playing Cinderella from the same-titled fairytale that was adapted as a "musical dance drama".[21][22]
As of late 2015, she is working simultaneously on multiple upcoming projects. She has completed filming for Seenu Ramasamy's Idam Porul Yaeval,[23] in which she portrays a patti mandram (debate) speaker,[24] Kutramae Thandanai that sees her collaborating with Kaaka Muttai director Manikandan and the horror comedy film Hello Naan Pei Pesuren, in which she plays a tele-shopping sales girl.[24][25] Aaradhu Sinam, a remake of the Malayalam film Memories,[26] and newcomer Bhuvan Nullan's Mo.[27][28]
