Iteration is the third studio album by American electronic musician Com Truise, released on June 16, 2017, by Ghostly International. It is Com Truise's first studio album since In Decay (2012).

Background and composition

On April 5, 2017, Com Truise confirmed that his next full-length album was to be expected on June 16, 2017. This album marks the final chapter of the sci-fi space adventure which a synthetic astronaut named "Com Truise" embarks on. According to a press release, the record "illustrates the last moments Com Truise spends on the perilous planet Wave 1, before he and his alien love escape its clutches to live in peace."

The artist behind the project, Seth Haley, states that he tries not to write about his personal life; however, it eventually seeps into the music. With his recent move to Los Angeles, Haley finds difficulties adjusting to the new environment, and so his musical style needed time to materialize after the move. In fact, a press release uncovers that his new album was somewhat inspired by the transition to a new neighborhood and from his awareness of self-realization. As Haley describes, "It's basically like I'm scoring this film in my head, but that film I'm scoring is also somehow my life."

The composition of the album had begun a couple years ago. But until recently, Haley had a challenging period of uncertainty and changeover. Once he got the style he was looking for, the album quickly materialized. To Haley, the album represents change. According to a statement from the artist, "I put more air, more breathing room in the music—that was the big change... . For me, it feels like change."[3][4][5]

Release

The announcement of the album has so far garnered much interest from fans and listeners, since a full studio album with new material from Com Truise has been heavily anticipated. It would be the first proper LP in six years since Galactic Melt, which was released back in 2011.[6] This excludes In Decay because it was a compilation of unreleased music and not a genuine studio album.[7]
