Ismail Elshikh

Ismail Elshikh is the imam of the Muslim Association of Hawaii. He is originally from Cairo, Egypt[1] and is the co-plaintiff in a motion filed in United States District Court for the District of Hawaii that has challenged President Trump's travel ban.[2]

Family

Elshikh and his wife have 5 children and are U.S. citizens.[3] His mother-in-law is a Syrian national who is living in Syria.[3]

Background

ElShickh was recruited to be imam of the Muslim Unity Center of Detroit in 2000 after being ssent to Detroit by Egyptian government to lead Ramadan observances in Washington D.C. Maryland, and Michigan.[4]

Travel ban

Elshikh's stated his family would be effected as it would prevent his mother-in-law from visiting them in Hawaii, and that it also made obstacles to completing her visa application.[3]
