Indiana-Kentucky Synod

The Indiana-Kentucky Synod is a synod, or diocese, of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The synod consists of all ELCA congregations in Indiana and Kentucky, 187 congregations consisting of 70,000 members. The synod is headed by a bishop, currently William O. Gafkjen.[1]

The business of the synod is conducted by the synod council throughout the year. Yearly, by demand of the ELCA constitution, the synod meets together with all rostered leaders (clergy, associates in ministry, deacons, deaconesses, diaconal ministers) as well as up to two representatives from each congregation (more for larger congregations) for Synod Assembly. The assembly alternates between three cities: Lexington, Kentucky; Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Indianapolis.

The Indiana-Kentucky Synod's offices are located in Indianapolis, Indiana at 911 E. 86th St., Ste. 200.
