Amonkhet is a Magic: The Gathering expansion block consisting of the sets Amonkhet and Hour of Devastation. Amonkhet was released on April 28, 2017,[3] and Hour of Devastation was released on July 14, 2017.[4]
Mechanics
Mechanics introduced in the Amonkhet set include:[5]
- brick counters – used to enable additional abilities on cards
- exert – allows players to gain extra ability from a creature when it attacks at the cost of that creature not untapping during its controllers next untap step
- embalm – allows players to exile creature spells from the graveyard by paying the embalm cost and create white zombie creature token copies of that creature
- aftermath - allows players to cast a spell from the graveyard by exiling the card with aftermath
Hour of Devastation introduced two new mechanics:
- eternalize - allows players to exile creature spells from the graveyard by paying the eternalize cost and create black zombie creature token copies of that creature with base power and toughness 4/4
- afflict - a creature ability which means that the defending player loses an amount of life defined by the card if the creature is blocked.
