Hounds of Love is a 2016 Australian horror thriller film written and directed by Ben Young, as his feature film debut.[1][2] It was entered in the Venice Days competition at the 73rd edition of the Venice Film Festival, in which Ashleigh Cummings was awarded Fedeora Award for best actress.[3][4]
Plot
The film has an intro showing schoolgirls playing netball in slow motion, as Evelyn and John, a serial killer couple, stalk them. As one of the girls walk her way home, the couple invite her for a ride, they kidnap her and it is implicitly shown that later that they beat, raped and ultimately killed her. While Vicki Maloney and her boyfriend Jason are dating, they talk about writing, while he shows her wordplay with a hidden riddle. Evelyn is shown asking her dog Lou-Lou to come in, while Evelyn's child is shown in a picture attached to the refrigerator, she prepares breakfast then shares a kiss with John. In a classroom Vicki is shown drawing a heart with her and her boyfriend initials, as the class ends her teacher stops her to discuss about her parents divorce, comforting her, she goes home and when she arrives her father, Trevor, gifts her with a puppy dog. John is shown burying the kidnapped girl's body into a forest. Vicki is ride to her mother's, Maggie, house, she sees her parents arguing over the divorcing, later that night while having dinner Vicki refuses her mother proposal to watch film together, telling her that she is going to a party. Maggie forbids her to go to that party, however Vicki slips through the window and goes out, while walking through the road, she is approached by Evelyn and John, they ask her if she wants marijuana, and they tell her that they are out of it, but have more at home. They all go to the couple's home and Evelyn is drugged and chained. On the next morning Maggie notices Vicki absence and calls Damian. Vicki pisses herself on the bed and is taken to a shower, later Evelyn forces her to write a letter to her mother, in which Vicki writes a riddle with her whereabouts, Vicki asks to go to the bathroom and is led by John, while a jealous Evelyn tries do kiss and seduce John, Vicki narrowly escapes. Maggie and Trevor try to fill a report for missing person, while Evelyn is shown delivering the letter into Maggie's mailbox. When Trevor and Maggie arrive at Maggie's house they find the letter, they argue and Trevor blames the divorce and Vicki's departure on her. John tries to rape Vicki, but she shits herself, John cleans the stuff and tries to continue on raping Vicki but is caught by Evelyn, Vicki tries to reason with Evelyn, blaming John the loss of her baby custody. Evelyn confronts John and pleads him to kill Vicki, he then convince her that Vicki was trying to manipulate her, they both beat and rape her. Maggie realizes that something is odd and ask Jason aid, they find the riddle within Vicki's letter, they ask for police assistance but are dismissed. Maggie, Jason and Trevor ride to the address they found in the letter and Maggies starts to scream for Vicki, while Evelyn tries to keep Vicki silent. John then tries to kill Vicki by strangling her, she is saved by Evelyn who stabs John repeatedly, killing him, Vicki then runs away and is reunited with her family.
