Hillsong Church UK is the United Kingdom congregation of Hillsong Church which also meets in Sydney, Paris, Kiev, Cape Town, Stockholm and New York City. The church was planted out of Sydney by Gerard and Sue Keehan in 1992 as the London Christian Life Centre,[1] becoming Hillsong Church London in 1999, and is currently pastored by Gary and Cathy Clarke.[2]

Venues

From 2000 to 2002 Hillsong London met in various West End theatres and university halls around London.[3] Towards the end of 2004 it ended a two-year residency in the Mermaid Conference and Events Centre, holding seven services a weekend. As of January 2005, the church holds four services on a Sunday at the Dominion Theatre, which seats around 2200 people.

In August 2005, Hillsong London began holding services in Leatherhead, Surrey (southwest of London), and in 2011 services commenced in Tonbridge, Kent (southeast of London).

In 2006 Hillsong London drew 3,000 people to the Excel Center for the first Hillsong Conference Europe.[4]

On 13 September 2009 Hillsong London held a service at the London O2 Arena, to celebrate ten years of the church in London. In 2013, Hillsong London formed the Warehouse Project just outside Millwall's Stadium, The Den.

On 14 February 2016 Newcastle Christian Life Centre, a Hillsong Family Church, became a Campus of Hillsong UK.[5][6] Hillsong UK's Newcastle Campus meets in Westgate Hall in Newcastle.

Hillsong London has hosted their special Christmas event called Carols at Wembley Arena.[7]

Music

In 2004, Hillsong London released their first live worship album, entitled Shout God's Fame (where Natasha Bedingfield recorded songs), recorded live at the Mermaid Conference and Events Centre.

In October 2005, Hillsong London released their second album, Jesus Is, which was recorded live at the Dominion Theatre in London's West End and includes performances by Matt Redman alongside the Hillsong London Team. Jesus Is was released in May 2006.

In December 2006, Hillsong London also released a remixed version of Jesus Is' called Jesus Is: Remix. The album contains various remixes of 12 songs from the original Jesus Is album.

On 8 October 2008 the Hail to the King album and live DVD was released, again recorded live in London's Dominion Theatre.

The following year, on 24 August 2009, the single "C.I.T.Y" was released and reached Number 16 on the UK Top 30 Indie singles charts.

On 24 January 2010, Hillsong London recorded songs which were included on the Hillsong LIVE DVD, A Beautiful Exchange, released on 29 July 2010.

In February 2013, Hillsong London recorded songs which were included on the Hillsong LIVE album, Glorious Ruins.
