Herbert S. Feinberg, MD, FAAD (born in 1937) is a dermatologist and founder of the Dermatology Center in Englewood, New Jersey, where he resides.[1][2]

He specializes in cosmetic dermatology, namely medical and surgical hair restoration, as well as traditional and robotic hair transplantation.[3] His other cosmetic interests include facial restoration with fillers, Botox and laser resurfacing, as well as tattoo and hair removal.[4] In addition, he treats common skin conditions such as acne, alopecia areata, rosacea, and other serious conditions such as psoriasis, skin cancer, and melanoma. Feinberg is affiliated with the Holy Name Medical Center.[5] In the 1990s, Feinberg became the first surgeon in New York and New Jersey to create follicular unit grafts, a hair transplant technique, by using microscopic dissection.[6]

Education and training

Feinberg graduated from Medical School at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1962. He did his internship at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center. His residency was at New York University, Skin and Cancer Unit; James J. Peters Veterans Affairs Medical Center and New York Hospital.[7]

Career

Feinberg received his medical license in 1962. After serving 2 years as a medical officer in the United States Air Force and completing three years of residency training in dermatology, he started his practice in Bergen County, New Jersey. His interest in surgical and cosmetic dermatology, along with his residency training with Norman Orentreich, the "father" of modern hair transplantation, led him to become the first transplant physician in New Jersey.[8]

Over time, as technology improved, he specialized in hair transplantation[9] In 1979, Simon & Schuster published his book All About Hair that established him as a recognized authority in the field[10][11][12] Feinberg has performed hair transplantation for more than 30 years.[13][14] In 2012, his office was the first in the New York metropolitan area to offer microscopic preparation of hair grafts and the first in New Jersey to use the ARTAS System, a robot hair transplant system.[15][3] Data from Medicare shows that Feinberg performed over 2,000 procedures such as laser and surgery for destroying precancerous skin growth, malignant skin growth, and skin abscess drainage.[4]
