Helena Morrissey

Dame Helena Louise Morrissey, DBE (born 1966/1967)[1] is Head of Personal Investing at Legal & General Investment Management, which has £894 billion of assets under management (2016).

She is a former chief executive[2] of Newton Investment Management which manages £47 billion of assets as of 31 December 2015.[3] She joined Newton in 1984 as a fixed income fund manager and became CEO in 2001.[4][5]

In 2010, she established the 30% Club to campaign for greater female representation on company boards. She is a trustee at the Eve Appeal, which raises money for gynaecological cancers, and she is chairperson of the corporate board of the Royal Academy of Arts.[1]

Already Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), she was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2017 Birthday Honours for services to diversity in financial services.[6]

Personal life

Raised near Chichester, both of her parents were teachers. After attending a comprehensive school in Chichester,[2] Morrissey studied at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge University, matriculating in 1985 and earning a BA in Philosophy. [7]

In 2016, she was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University.[8]

Family

Morrissey is the mother of nine children with her husband, Richard.[2]
