Prior to 1948 there were approximately 120 Jewish families residing outside of the city walls. The Jewish community consisted of families Najjar (Nagar), Imran, Wahab, Karni, Yithak, and Yakoob. Their occupations were mainly carpentry, leather tanning, and pottery. Three Baladi Synagogues served them.[1]
