Hassan is a city and the district headquarters of Hassan district in the Indian state of Karnataka. The town is situated 935 m above sea level with weather similar to Bangalore. It is named after the Hasanamba temple.[1] Hassan is 183 kilometres (114 mi) west of Bangalore, 119 kilometres (74 mi) north of Mysore, and 171 kilometres (106 mi) east of Mangalore by road. The urban population in 2010 was 133,436.[2]
Climate
Tropical savanna climates have monthly mean temperature above 18 °C (64 °F) in every month of the year and typically a pronounced dry season, with the driest month having precipitation less than 60mm (2.36 in) of precipitation. The Köppen Climate Classification subtype for this climate is "Aw" (Tropical Savanna Climate).[3]

Demographics
As of the 2011 Indian census,[2] the city of Hassan had an urban population of 133,436. Males were 49.5% of the population and females 50.5%. The average literacy rate was 80.8%. Male literacy was 82.7%, and female literacy was 78.9%. 10.1% of the population was under the age of 7.
