Harris C. Fahnestock

Harris C. Fahnestock (February 27, 1835 -- June 4, 1914) was an American investment banker. [1]

He was a "successful investment banker and financial advisor to President Abraham Lincoln." He co-founded First Nation Bank of New York, a predecessor to Citigroup.[2]

He was father of Harris Fahnestock (1869-1939).[3]

One of his grandsons was William Fahnstock, who, at age 23, was the youngest member of the New York Stock Exchange.

Fahnestock & Co. was founded in 1881, which eventually led to creation of Oppenheimer & Co. in 1950.[2]
